Venues We Love: Wadsworth Mansion

VENUES WE LOVE // WADSWORTH MANSION

Since we opened our doors six + half years ago, we have heard our brides rave about the amazing venues they chose for their big day + the amazing vendors they have worked with, so we thought what’s better than streamlining the process for our future brides! Over the next few months we will be highlighting the venues we know both we + our brides have loved! From the opulent mansions to the intimate spaces.

Photography by VO Photography // ALSW Couple: Cara + Dan

For the first in this series we wanted to highlight the historic Wadsworth Mansion! Known for their timeless elegance + historic details, Wadsworth Mansion is the destination for brides + grooms alike! We had the privilege to sit down + chit chat with Jess (Director of Events), to get a behind the scenes look into what our brides can expect when choosing Wadsworth Mansion for their venue.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE VENUE!

Built in 1900 for Coloney Clarence S. Wadsworth + his wife Katharine as a country summer residence. Wadsworth’s love of forestry + land conservation led him to hire the Olmsted Brothers, to oversee the design of their 500 acres, transforming the grounds into a working landscape. Years later to be sold from one owner to the next to just meet decay + vandalism, conservationist fought to repurpose + find a new uses of the estate for future public use. After many years of historic rehabilitation + modern amenities the venue we know + love came to life!

1934, THE CELEBRATION OF THE FIRST WEDDING WAS HELD AT THE WADSWORTH MANSION.

Q&A

WITH WADSWORTH
///

What would you say is the best feature of your venue the most couples love?

“We are a historic Mansion that only hosts one wedding a day. Couples who get married at the Mansion are looking for an experience beyond your standard wedding venue and our space encourages that kind of creativity. We have a wonderful indoor/outdoor event space where ceremonies are outside on the vista, cocktails and formalities on the terrace, dining in our Beaux Arts style ballrooms, followed by guests heading back outside for dancing under the stars.”

///

What should a couple expect when working with you?

“We love weddings at the Mansion and we are dedicated to providing each couple with a positive experience from start to finish.  We have a knowledgeable staff who is happy to assist with all the big and little decisions leading up to their wedding day!

HAVING A FORMAL SIT DOWN DINNER? NO PROBLEM, WADSWORTH CAN HOLD UP TO 200 GUESTS!

Q&A

WITH WADSWORTH
///

What are some foods favorites your couples choose for their wedding day?

“We have a list of caterers our couples can choose from and each has their own specialties offered. We see many delicious dishes served at the Mansion!”

///

Is there an inventory of décor (candle holders, lighting, vases etc.) that a couple can choose from? Or are they bringing in rentals?

The Mansion is a beautiful backdrop for a couples wedding day however many couples will choose to rent décor to enhance the experience. We do not have anything on site so couples can work with florists or rental companies to select décor that fits their vision.”

So many great spots around the grounds for intimate photos

Bridal Fashion Week…Here We Come!

5 things to know about
BRIDAL FASHION WEEK!

Click Here to Follow us Behind the Scenes!

BELOW ARE THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS BRIDES ASK US!

WHAT IS BRIDAL FASHION WEEK (a.k.a. BRIDAL MARKET)!

Starting this Friday we will be heading into NYC for Bridal Market, which is a multi-day event that happens every 6 months, where bridal designers descend on NYC with their new collections. From runway shows to intimate appointments with designers, this is an incredibly fun, (yet exhausting) series of days where we are presented with 10-15 new styles from each designer. We then select a handful from each designer to purchase for the store!

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHICH GOWNS TO PURCHASE?

We cannot purchase every dress from a new collection (even though we’d love to), so we hone in on certain styles we think our brides will love. We have to put our own personal styles to the side and strictly think of the brides walking through our doors in search of the perfect gown!

WHEN WILL THE GOWNS YOU BUY ARRIVE AT THE STORE?

As you may know, bridal gowns can take up to 6 months to be made, same is true for the gowns we purchase for the store! Sometimes we get lucky + gowns arrive as early as 2 months + as late as 6 months after market!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE A GOWN I SAW ON THE RUNWAY. IS THERE ANY WAY FOR ME TO TRY IT ON BEFORE IT ARRIVES TO YOUR STORE!

The short answer is YES! We host designer spotlights throughout the year, where we bring in a designers most recent collection as well as best sellers from past seasons.

IF I’M A 2020 BRIDE SHOULD I ONLY BE BUYING FROM THE SPRING 2020 COLLECTION!

The concept of seasonality in the bridal business is very different than in ready-to-wear. Many gowns with a “Spring” moniker will be just as appropriate for a bride getting married in April, August or October! Bridal fashions don’t shift from trend to trend like ready-to-wear clothing, so you won’t see a huge shift in styles. Basically what this all means is you should buy what you LOVE + don’t worry about what season it comes from! To this day one of our top selling gowns is from “Spring 2017”, so choose the gown you feel beautiful in… A beautiful confident bride is always going to be timeless!

“IF I COULD RELIVE ANY MOMENT FROM MY WEDDING DAY, IT WOULD BE THE FIRST DANCE!”
-LAUREN

THE INSPIRATION!
Nestled in the Elizabeth Park Gardens, this space is a perfect backdrop for a garden inspired wedding, from the floral watercolor bridesmaids dresses to the lanterns accented with garden roses and ranunculus carried by the maids instead of traditional bouquets!

THE FIRST LOOK!
Tucked in a quaint garden, the bride tapped her groom on the shoulder for the grand reveal of her simple chiffon Sadoni gown and pencil edged veil!

Look at her groom’s face!

How clever are the floral lanterns instead of a bouquet!

THE CEREMONY!
With a pond backdrop and cobble stone lined aisle the couple looked so at peace with their family + friends surrounding them.

What did you love most about working with A Little Something White Bridal?

A Little Something White was the first and last bridal boutique I went to. I was never fully excited about planning a wedding, so naturally I had no idea what I was doing. I had a budget that I really wanted to keep, and Liz picked out the most simple dress that I thought I was going to hate. Well, I felt like a princess, my mom cried, and I knew in that moment that it was going to be my dress. She also picked out my veil and headpiece. All and all, the best part about A Little Something White was that they made me comfortable and really did all the work for me. I felt beautiful!

///

What would you recommend to a new bride beginning her gown shopping?

To any new bride, per my experience, try on all the dresses! You go in loving one style and walk out with something way more suited for you.

How did you meet your husband?

I met my husband at a gym, he was a personal trainer + will take it to his grave that I approached him for his number. (That didn’t happen, he totally asked me for mine!) Either way, we hit it off, but the timing just wasn’t right at the time. Years later he asked me on a date. We went out for chicken parmigiana (haha) and I swear I fell in love with him immediately. The rest is history!!

///

How did he propose to you?

In January 2017, I dropped a 45 pound weight on my foot at the gym. It hurt like hell. I was put in a boot and couldn’t divulge in anything super fun for quite some time. Ahmad seemingly couldn’t wait to propose, so he got down on one knee while I was cooking dinner on a random Tuesday night. He then woo’ed me with is killer dance moves to “Lady in Red.”

THE PARTY!
Dining tables lined in lush garden roses, greenery + soft neutral linens!

Some tasty bites + first dance steps.

What was going through your mind as you walked down the aisle?

Walking down the aisle was just like I had imagined. I remember looking ahead at Ahmad and lovingly smiling back at him. It all seemed so surreal.

///

If you could go back and relive a moment from your wedding day, what would it be?

If I could relive any moment from my wedding day, it would probably be the first dance. That was a once in a lifetime moment that I will never forget, but would do 50 times over again. It was the best day of my life.

What did you love most about working with A Little Something White Bridal?

“I never once worried about my dress/alterations/veil/accessories. I knew everything was going to be perfect. Not only because of the environment but how easy ALSW was to work with. One vendor that caused me ZERO stress which is always a HUGE win when planning a wedding!”

///

What would you recommend to a new bride beginning her gown shopping?

Be open minded, my dress was completely what I said I didn’t want. I have a small chest and there was no way I wanted a strapless w/sweetheart neckline and that’s what Kim picked for me and it was AMAZING and everything I could have dreamed of.”

How did you meet your husband?

“We actually went to high school together but weren’t friends! Then in college my best friend, is his best friends little sister. She told me Evan was having a party over summer break and so we went. Evan and I ended up being beer pong partners and won (no joke) 20 games of beer pong in a row. I didn’t really like him at first, I even had a boyfriend at the time. But then we continued talking, I broke up with my boyfriend and we’ve been together ever since!!”

///

What was going through your mind as you walked down the aisle?

“The whole 20 minutes before the wedding was so crazy because a major thunderstorm just rolled through and we had to move the ceremony from the field to inside the barn where my reception was. There was literally every emotion running through my mind. But it honestly was my favorite part of the entire night.”

THE PARTY!
Held in an old wood airplane hangar created a cozy backdrop for the guests to dance the night away. Is anyone else craving cake, or is it just us!

We love a mix of table sizes and shapes makes for a great flow + perfect way to get guests to mix + mingle more easily.
