Bridal Fashion Week…Here We Come!

5 things to know about
BRIDAL FASHION WEEK!

Click Here to Follow us Behind the Scenes!

BELOW ARE THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS BRIDES ASK US!

WHAT IS BRIDAL FASHION WEEK (a.k.a. BRIDAL MARKET)!

Starting this Friday we will be heading into NYC for Bridal Market, which is a multi-day event that happens every 6 months, where bridal designers descend on NYC with their new collections. From runway shows to intimate appointments with designers, this is an incredibly fun, (yet exhausting) series of days where we are presented with 10-15 new styles from each designer. We then select a handful from each designer to purchase for the store!

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHICH GOWNS TO PURCHASE?

We cannot purchase every dress from a new collection (even though we’d love to), so we hone in on certain styles we think our brides will love. We have to put our own personal styles to the side and strictly think of the brides walking through our doors in search of the perfect gown!

WHEN WILL THE GOWNS YOU BUY ARRIVE AT THE STORE?

As you may know, bridal gowns can take up to 6 months to be made, same is true for the gowns we purchase for the store! Sometimes we get lucky + gowns arrive as early as 2 months + as late as 6 months after market!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE A GOWN I SAW ON THE RUNWAY. IS THERE ANY WAY FOR ME TO TRY IT ON BEFORE IT ARRIVES TO YOUR STORE!

The short answer is YES! We host designer spotlights throughout the year, where we bring in a designers most recent collection as well as best sellers from past seasons.

IF I’M A 2020 BRIDE SHOULD I ONLY BE BUYING FROM THE SPRING 2020 COLLECTION!

The concept of seasonality in the bridal business is very different than in ready-to-wear. Many gowns with a “Spring” moniker will be just as appropriate for a bride getting married in April, August or October! Bridal fashions don’t shift from trend to trend like ready-to-wear clothing, so you won’t see a huge shift in styles. Basically what this all means is you should buy what you LOVE + don’t worry about what season it comes from! To this day one of our top selling gowns is from “Spring 2017”, so choose the gown you feel beautiful in… A beautiful confident bride is always going to be timeless!

“IF I COULD RELIVE ANY MOMENT FROM MY WEDDING DAY, IT WOULD BE THE FIRST DANCE!”
-LAUREN

THE INSPIRATION!
Nestled in the Elizabeth Park Gardens, this space is a perfect backdrop for a garden inspired wedding, from the floral watercolor bridesmaids dresses to the lanterns accented with garden roses and ranunculus carried by the maids instead of traditional bouquets!

THE FIRST LOOK!
Tucked in a quaint garden, the bride tapped her groom on the shoulder for the grand reveal of her simple chiffon Sadoni gown and pencil edged veil!

Look at her groom’s face!

How clever are the floral lanterns instead of a bouquet!

What did you love most about working with A Little Something White Bridal?

A Little Something White was the first and last bridal boutique I went to. I was never fully excited about planning a wedding, so naturally I had no idea what I was doing. I had a budget that I really wanted to keep, and Liz picked out the most simple dress that I thought I was going to hate. Well, I felt like a princess, my mom cried, and I knew in that moment that it was going to be my dress. She also picked out my veil and headpiece. All and all, the best part about A Little Something White was that they made me comfortable and really did all the work for me. I felt beautiful!

///

What would you recommend to a new bride beginning her gown shopping?

To any new bride, per my experience, try on all the dresses! You go in loving one style and walk out with something way more suited for you.

THE DETAILS!

How did you meet your husband?

I met my husband at a gym, he was a personal trainer + will take it to his grave that I approached him for his number. (That didn’t happen, he totally asked me for mine!) Either way, we hit it off, but the timing just wasn’t right at the time. Years later he asked me on a date. We went out for chicken parmigiana (haha) and I swear I fell in love with him immediately. The rest is history!!

///

How did he propose to you?

In January 2017, I dropped a 45 pound weight on my foot at the gym. It hurt like hell. I was put in a boot and couldn’t divulge in anything super fun for quite some time. Ahmad seemingly couldn’t wait to propose, so he got down on one knee while I was cooking dinner on a random Tuesday night. He then woo’ed me with is killer dance moves to “Lady in Red.”

THE PARTY!
Dining tables lined in lush garden roses, greenery + soft neutral linens!

Some tasty bites + first dance steps.

What was going through your mind as you walked down the aisle?

Walking down the aisle was just like I had imagined. I remember looking ahead at Ahmad and lovingly smiling back at him. It all seemed so surreal.

///

If you could go back and relive a moment from your wedding day, what would it be?

If I could relive any moment from my wedding day, it would probably be the first dance. That was a once in a lifetime moment that I will never forget, but would do 50 times over again. It was the best day of my life.

What did you love most about working with A Little Something White Bridal?

“I never once worried about my dress/alterations/veil/accessories. I knew everything was going to be perfect. Not only because of the environment but how easy ALSW was to work with. One vendor that caused me ZERO stress which is always a HUGE win when planning a wedding!”

What would you recommend to a new bride beginning her gown shopping?

How did you meet your husband?

“We actually went to high school together but weren’t friends! Then in college my best friend, is his best friends little sister. She told me Evan was having a party over summer break and so we went. Evan and I ended up being beer pong partners and won (no joke) 20 games of beer pong in a row. I didn’t really like him at first, I even had a boyfriend at the time. But then we continued talking, I broke up with my boyfriend and we’ve been together ever since!!”

///

What was going through your mind as you walked down the aisle?

“The whole 20 minutes before the wedding was so crazy because a major thunderstorm just rolled through and we had to move the ceremony from the field to inside the barn where my reception was. There was literally every emotion running through my mind. But it honestly was my favorite part of the entire night.”

THE PARTY!
Held in an old wood airplane hangar created a cozy backdrop for the guests to dance the night away. Is anyone else craving cake, or is it just us!

WHEN TO BUY?
Start shopping 5-6 months prior to the big day! Bridesmaids dresses take 12-14 weeks to arrive and give yourself a month for alterations! Keep in mind your stylist won’t place your bridal party order until every girl has paid and a size has been selected. This is to ensure the dresses are all cut from the same bolt of fabric!

AMSALE | Price point: $270-$320
Fabric Choices: Flat Chiffon, Crinkle Chiffon, Crepe, Jersey, Faille & Tulle!
Book your styling appointment to view the Amsale Bridesmaids line!

WHAT SIZE SHOULD I ORDER?
Finding the right size can be tricky, and we always base our recommendations off of measurements and how they correlate with a designer’s size chart. For instance, if a girls bust is an 8, her waist a 6, but her hip is a size 10. We recommend to order the 10, it is always best to go with the widest part of your frame and have the rest of the dress altered down!

Bridesmaids dresses are designed to be altered, so don’t fret if there is a jump in the measurements!

What did you love most about working with A Little Something White Bridal?

“I had an incredible experience with ALSW and I’m so glad that I chose them for my bridal salon. What I loved most about my experience with ALSW was the intimate setting. Kim took time to really understand what I was looking for in my bridal gown. And later, my seamstress went above and beyond to make sure my dress was perfectly fitted. From the moment arrived to start my search to the moment I left with my dress in hand, I felt like the entire ALSW team was in my corner!”

///

What would you recommend to a new bride beginning her gown shopping?

“Trust your gut and make your opinion the priority! There are so many people with opinions throughout the wedding process, and at the end of the day, the only person that needs to love that dress is you! I would also recommend keeping your dress a total secret until this big day. The only people that saw my dress were those I went shopping with (my mom, mother-in-law and sister-in-law) and my maid of honor. It was a hard secret to keep but seeing everyone’s reactions on the day of was priceless. I will forever treasure my “first look” pictures with my bridesmaids and immediate family.”

THE DECOR!
Mansion woodwork, lush runners, crystal chandelier + dinner by candlelight.

THE LOVE STORY // Q&A!
WITH ALSW BRIDE KAILYN

///

How did you meet your husband?

“My husband and I met the first day of freshman year at Xavier University. We were very close friends for a long time and then started dating later in college.”

///

How did he propose?

“Well, the story of how my husband was suppose to propose is a far more interesting tale! We live in Washington, D.C. and he had planned to propose on the back of the Lincoln Memorial…however, I am known to be a little difficult to surprise and I kept unintentionally derailing his plans! He ended up proposing at home in our apartment a few minutes before we were headed out the door to meet my parents for brunch. It absolutely blew me away and it was a perfect, quiet moment between the two of us.”

///

What was going through your mind as you walked down the aisle?

Walking down the aisle was one of my favorite moments of the day, which in retrospect, is kind of funny as it was the part I was most nervous about! However, the second those doors opened I was instantly filled with so much love and joy. I couldn’t stop looking around the room. It’s truly an incredible experience to see every single person you love in one room, at one time and I couldn’t stop thinking about how blessed I am.”

///

If you could go back and relive a moment from your wedding day, what would it be?

“That is such a hard question! We truly loved every moment of our day. I don’t think I have ever been as excited in my life as I was when the priest announced us as Mr. and Mrs. Foy and we walked (…rather – basically ran out of excitement) back down the aisle! However, the small in between moments really stick out in my head too! Turning around during the ceremony and seeing all my loved ones looking back at me — watching our family enjoy the day with our closest friends — seeing everyone’s reaction when we walked into the reception! All the small moments that I could have never planned for are what made the day beyond perfect.”
